Drawing Pains


In my opinion, chances are, that the odds of being a small child and saying " When I grow up, I wanna be a football player!", would work better in your favor than what I said when I was four years old. " I wanna draw comic books!" I didn't know how I was going to do it, or even if it was a possibility, I just knew from that first Spider-man comic my Mom bought me while she was picking up her daily supply of Budwieser, that there was nothing else I wanted to do with my life. My name is Alé Garza, and since publishing my first book at the age of 17 I have been working as a professional comic book artist full time for some 16 years. Spending a majority of my career under the tutelage of Jim Lee at Wildstorm/ DC Comics I have since branched out on my own and have carved what some would call a successful yet not yet fully reached potential career. From Supergirl, to Batgirl, to Fathom, as well as covers for Spider-man, Vampirella, and a slew of others I have created a name for myself that I struggle everyday to maintain. Sure I've created properties like Ninja Boy, which I sold to Warner Bros at the age of 23, and yes at times my "bad boy" image has distanced me from certain and publisher and editors, but I love my job. It's more than I could've ever imagined. I've travelled the country, I've met my idols, and celebrities, and I get paid to turn paper into money. This is my story, and my studiomates as we travel the country, deal with each other, hustle everyday for work, no matter how hung over. You get to see the drive we all have as artists, and as faceless entertainers, this is Drawing Pains….
